Results Task 6

Task 6

The tactically difficult task turned out to be somewhat easy after all. The conditions were better than expected and the pilots were able to fly very fast. However, the headwind passages were not easy. In the end, the ideal choice of route on the last leg was decisive. Congratulations to the task winners.

Task 6

The 6 task of the Superfinal is set.Just under 100 kilometres in the Surselva, landing in Ilanz. Tactically it has some refinements again. The pilots are rested again after yesterday's rest day.

Meteo:

Weather and Infos, update 07:10

2-3/8 Cumulus, base 3300-3500m
Good thermals with a slightly delayed start

Winds at 14h:
Ground:
- on Lukmanier south probably to Disentis
- very little winds in the Surselva (this is a sign that it is foehny)
- east of Flims normal valley winds (Chur-Davos-Thusis, Tiefenkastel etc)
- Prättigau: I estimate 20km/h at Schiers (valley wind comes from west)
2000m:
- from the Lukmanier the wind pushes as SW to about Trun
- from „Vals“ the wind pushes as SW to Flims and to Chur
- from San Bernadino to Thusis (and Scalottas!)
- from Julier/Savognin to Davos, where Davos itself has only light winds at 2000
- Prättigau 5 kn NW
3000m:
- 10-15kn W WSW

Task 5 cancelled

Task 5 cancelled

Shortly before the start of the race, a rain cell approached Disentis from the west. This was announced, but it was supposed to pass Disentis. Unfortunately, it began to rain at the take-off and then at the landing field. The pilots in the air radioed that the task should be aborted. That was the decision. All pilots landed safely in Disentis.

The 5 task over 72.4 kilometres goes from Disentis to Piz Fess, then back in Goal to Disentis.

Meteo:

A westerly air flow has brought a humid, hot and unstable air mass to the Alps. On Friday, this hot and still quite unstable air will continue to dominate the weather.

3-6/8 Cumulus, base 3500m
In the afternoon, first showers possible south of us, later also possible in Disentis.

Good thermals, partly disturbed by shadows.

Ground:
- Normal valley winds
- on Lukmanier south to Curaglia
2000m:
- From the Lukmanier the south wind pushes as SW to about Disentis, elsewhere the wind is light.
- Vals: Weak winds
- Safien and Thusis: 5-7kn NNE
3000m:
- 10-15kn W, Flims 15kn WNW

Task 4 Results

Task 4

What a task! Fast, tactical and the pilots could enjoy the mountain scenery. The line choice in the direction of Davos was exciting. Some decided to take the direct route via Domleschg and Lenzerheide, others chose the route via Calanda and up the Schanfigg valley. In the end, it was clear that the direct route was the faster one. 93 of 101 pilots who started reached the finish. Congratulations to the pilots who made it!

Task 4

Task 4 is set

The route leads via Lenzerheide to Davos. 90 kilometers over high mountains. Let's look forward to an exciting race.

After yesterday's very demanding task, today we will fly with the wind to the east. The thermal forecasts look very good, the cloud base with 3300-3600 meters high enough to plan a long task.

Meteo:
Some cirrus clouds, intensity not yet estimable. However, they should not disturb the thermal development much.
Few small cumuli, base 3300 rising to 3600.

The wind forecast has changed from "WNW" to "WSW“:

Relatively weak valley winds
2000m 5kn SW-Wind, at Cavistrau 10kn
3000m 10kn W, at Cavistrau 15kn
